Bakersfield College President hosts McFarland High School at BC Football Home Opener

Catching a Bakersfield College football game on a Saturday night is great fun – it’s even better when BC President, Sonya Christian is your host.

McFarland High Dual Enrollment Students got a special treat on Saturday, September 8, when Kern Community College District Trustee, Romeo Agbalog and BC President, Sonya Christian arranged to have McFarland High students and staff picked up in the Bakersfield College Athletic bus and transported to Bakersfield to watch Bakersfield College’s Football home opener versus El Camino College.

McFarland High School and Bakersfield College have continued to grow their academic partnership with the expansion of dual enrollment and concurrent enrollment courses that allow McFarland High School students to complete college level coursework during their four years at McFarland High School. The opportunity for these students to visit the campus and attend a football game, further solidified the fact that these students are both MHS Cougars and Bakersfield College Renegades.

At the conclusion of the game, students and staff were invited to the field by BC Athletic Director, Sandi Taylor, and were able to take photos with BC football players from McFarland. The group also had the opportunity to meet both Kern Community College Trustee, Bill Thomas and Bakersfield Mayor, Karen Goh.

Bakersfield College defeated El Camino 20-15, making the Renegades’ 1-1 on the season.
