Delano man arrested after neighbor takes photo of him taking package

Jan. 10, 2017

Delano police arrested a Delano man Friday in the theft of a resident’s package after a neighbor photographed suspect in the act.

On Jan. 6, 2017, a vigilant neighbor in the 200 block of 12th Avenue observed a man enter the neighbor’s yard and take a package that had been delivered earlier by the United States Postal Service.

The neighbor approached the man and took a photograph of him as he walked away. The neighbor then called the Delano Police Department and provided the picture to the officers.

The officers recognized the suspect and were able to identify him as Juan Cabrera, 29, of Delano. The officers found Cabrera shortly after within the 700 block of Ellington Street.

Officers arrested Cabrera on an active warrant and during questioning, Cabrera admitted to taking the package and led officers to where it was being kept. Cabrera was arrested and booked for his active arrest warrant, theft, and possession of stolen property.

The Delano Police Department would like to thank all the citizens of Delano for remaining vigilant.
