A record-breaking wildfire season is expected this year. You can help the people in your community by serving as a Red Cross volunteer shelter worker when a disaster strikes. Join our Virtual Training Fair so you can answer the call when your community needs it most.
We aspire to turn compassion into action so that all people affected by disaster in your community will receive care, shelter, and hope.
Our shelter workers are highly trained, but you can complete most of the training in our 3-hour virtual session. The remaining courses can be completed online, at your leisure.

The R.A.P.I.D. – Removing and Preventing Illegal Dumping cleaned up 47 dump sites in District 4 in the month of March. 162 dump sites have been cleaned up in 2021.

Kern County Cooling Center locations
For the health, safety, and comfort of our residents, the Kern County Parks Department, in cooperation with the Department of Aging and Adult Services, other Kern County agencies and/or districts, and PG&E, will open Cooling Centers throughout the County when temperatures are forecast by the National Weather Service (NWS) to exceed certain highs.
Cooling Centers open in the San Joaquin and Kern River Valleys when the temperatures are forecast to be 105 degrees or higher, in the desert areas when temperatures are forecast to be 108 degrees or higher, and in Frazier Park when temperatures are forecast to be 95 degrees or higher. The centers are open from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
The Cooling Centers Daily Report will be issued by 11:00 am on the day before the Centers open. Weekend Cooling Center openings will be released by 11:00 am on Friday.
Residents using the Cooling Centers are encouraged to bring their favorite non-alcoholic beverages, snacks, reading material, games, etc. to better enjoy the Centers.

Free Library Lunches to local children
In partnership with No Kid Hungry and the Kern County Superintendent of Schools, the Wasco and Delano branches of the Kern County Library system are offering free lunches and educational crafts to kids 2-18.
The Wasco Branch Library is offering grab and go lunch and crafts on Monday and Tuesday from 12-1 pm, and the Delano Branch Library is offering the same on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 12 pm-1 pm. There will be opportunities to win books and take home games for the whole family. There are no sign-ups needed and the program will be going on all summer long!
